About The Course
Honour based violence is a violent crime or incident which may have been committed to protect or defend the honour of the family or community. Different organisations and people working with individuals should be aware of the signs of abuse so that they are able to identify cases of victims who may be in need of help or protection. This course includes practical examples and the opportunity to discuss local issues that may arise within your own field.
Forced marriage is a marriage in which one or both of the parties is married without his or her consent or against his or her will.
FGM is a form of child abuse and violence against women and girls, and therefore should be dealt with as part of existing child and adult protection structures, policies and procedures. This training course provides the opportunity to explore practical ways to create an open and supportive environment and also allows local issues to be explored, as well as an opportunity for discussion.
Course Objectives
- To enable individuals to understand and recognise the different forms of Honour Based Abuse and Forced Marriage and potential community issues.
- To enable individuals to understand and recognise Females Genital Mutilation (FGM) and potential community issues.
- To explore the impact of Honour Based Abuse, Forced Marriage on victims.
- To explore the impact of FGM on victims, including children.
- To identify practice issues and cultural sensitivity/community beliefs.
- To increase awareness of human rights, other legislation and no recourse to public funding issues.
- Assessing and managing risk to increase safety of victims and children.
- To increase individual's knowledge of the resources and support services available.
